British Columbia is home to at least 35 species of rockfish, and the Vancouver Aquarium has canary rockfish, often known as rock cod, and red snapper. Often, rockfish are long-lived and slow-growing; however, that makes them vulnerable to overharvesting.  As a result, it can take years or even decades for the population to recover.

These fish species are an excellent way to better understand the incredible ocean life along the coast of British Columbia.

Swim over to the Strait of Georgia habitat to see canary rockfish.
