Guided by an Aquarium interpreter, you will learn more about the walruses at the Vancouver Aquarium and how they are helping researchers understand how their Arctic counterparts are impacted by climate change. Then, if the walruses are awake, you’ll meet up with a walrus trainer and experience what it’s like to work with such charismatic animals.
Experience what it’s like to care for walruses as you go behind the scenes to see the fishy part of animal care. You will also receive a unique opportunity to be amongst the first guests to see the Arctic Fish rearing lab where our biologists help researchers understand life under the Arctic sea ice!
Call 604-659-3552 / 1-800-931-1186 or email [email protected] to book. Booking office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - closed weekends and holidays. Day-of bookings for this encounter may be possible pending availability, please inquire at Guest Services Desk upon your arrival at the Aquarium.
It is possible that the walruses will be asleep during the time of your encounter which means seeing them will not be possible. You will still go behind-the-scenes for a unique experience no other guest will have but will not be able to see the walruses.
We want you to enjoy your behind-the-scenes experience. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns. No concern is too small; the more information you can provide about yourself, the better prepared we can be for your experience.
Program requires participants to stand and kneel for extended periods of time, go up and down stairs, walk on wet and slippery surfaces and be above the water on an unstable dock. Closed-toed shoes are required. Please advise us of any special needs. Cameras are not permitted within the habitat for animal safety reasons.
