The Vancouver Aquarium
Up Close

February 6 - April 30, 2014

This spring, see the Vancouver Aquarium like never before when you get a chance to learn what it takes to care for over 50,000 aquatic creatures and discover why our organization is much more than what you see in our galleries.

Through new interactive shows, special behind-the-scenes experiences, as well as programming and displays we’ll take you beyond your first impressions of your favourite animals and show you how we care for them on a day to day basis. Some guests may be selected to get hands-on with krill and feed it to the animals in our Straight of Georgia habitat, others might have the chance to visit our vet lab where we care for everything from the jellyfish to the beluga whales. You may even be lucky enough to get picked to participate in a training session with the playful dolphins or adorable otters! Come learn surprising fun facts like which animal is the most expensive to feed (hint: it’s not the biggest!) and which Wet Lab critter has its home on its back.

You don’t want to miss this unique opportunity to see the Aquarium in a completely different way. As guests will be picked at random to participate in shows and go behind-the-scenes, every visit will be different, even for those not selected. Visitors will leave with a much deeper understanding of who we are and what we do.

New Shows & Activities

Visit The Wet Lab

For the first time ever our Wet Lab will be open daily. With over 6,000 individual animals representing close to 150 species, you’ll have the opportunity to roll up your sleeves for hands-on experiences with spineless animals found on our local seashores. Visit our daily schedule for Wet Lab hours starting Feb 6.

Interactive Marine Mammal Shows

Don’t miss out on our new interactive marine mammal shows which will teach you how we care for the animals and why that’s important. For each show, one very lucky person will even be asked to step into the role of marine mammal trainer.

Behind The Scenes

If you’re in the right place at the right time you may get asked to step behind-the-scenes and visit animal care areas that only our staff have access to. There’s no telling if, when or where you’ll go behind the scenes, but the surprise is all part of the fun!
