Ocean Wise Education Bus 

Thanks to the generosity of donors, Ocean Wise Education will be operating a free bus transporting classes to our programs onsite at the Vancouver aquarium. This project aims to decrease the transportation barriers and make ocean literacy programming more accessible to all schools.

Ocean Wise Education may be able to come pick your class up! 

If you are considering a fieldtrip to the Vancouver Aquarium but the cost of transportation is a barrier, apply for a free bus. The bus can provide one free round trip to and from the Vancouver Aquarium. If selected, you will receive further instructions on when and how to book a school program for the correct date. The free bus is conditional upon the booking of a paid program. Requests are granted based on availability. The bus can fit 55 adult passengers, sitting two to a bench. Students Pre-K to Grade 5 will be able to fit three to a bench, thereby increasing the capacity.

FAQ

1) I’ve already booked a program; can I have a free bus?

Sorry, because we cannot guarantee bus availability for the date you have already booked, please make your own transportation arrangements.


2) I have submitted my application; when will I hear back?

Due to the high volume of requests, we are unable to respond back to each one. If your request is granted, you will be given at least 3 weeks’ notice to plan your trip.


3) Even with a free bus, my students cannot afford the cost of a program, what can I do?

Apply for the Ocean Wise Bursary Program instead. The Ocean Wise Bursary Program funds free programs, including transportation, for schools that have a high concentration of youth vulnerable to the effects of poverty.


4) I have already submitted an application for the Ocean Wise Bursary Program but I haven’t heard back? Should I also apply for this free bus?

If receiving free transportation would make the cost of a school program affordable, then apply for this bus.
