Junior Biologist Club is excited to start a new season where we continue to explore the animals, science, and research that happen behind the scenes at the Vancouver Aquarium.

Get ready to dive into a series of adventures to gain a better understanding of our aquatic planet, the technological innovation in Aquarium research and what we need to do to better protect our oceans.

1. Something's in the Water

There is a lot in the water, both good and bad. Discover how scientists assess ocean and freshwater health by testing local water samples, reviewing the water cycle, and re-imagining an ideal ocean habitat.

2. Tremendous and Venomous

There are many ways that animals defend themselves in the wild, but let’s learn from the chemical masterminds of the natural world and see how their spines and fangs truly make them tremendous!

3. Let’s Help the Kelp!

Land or sea? Why not both? The kelp forests in our backyard play host to an astonishing amount of life! Dive in and see the treasures off our own coastline and discover what we can do to keep them protected.

4. Coral Reef Debrief

Coral reefs host an astounding amount of life, making them one of the most important ocean habitats, but they are at risk of dying before our very eyes. Join the brief to save the reef!

5. The Great Invertebrate Debate

Grow a spine? I think not – it’s fun to wiggle and jiggle along! Join the junior biologist team as we learn all about the fascinating creatures that flourish without a backbone, including some of our hands-on wet lab animals.

Don’t forget about the little guys! We will focus our lens on the smallest creatures in the oceans, and learn all about the mayhem that is happening in the microscopic world!

See all the ninjas in the natural world! The animals that hide in plain sight will be revealed as the team uncovers the secret of their disguises. From the octopus to the sole, we will uncover all their secrets!

Not all reptiles are drab - some of our scaled friends have the craziest adaptations to help them survive out in nature! Slither in to find out who has the frills and skills to survive in the cold-blooded world.

9. Beach Outreach

Beach day! There are so many different things to find on the beach, from sea stars to shore crabs, so let’s spend some time exploring. We will discover our B.C. Coast and use our detective skills to separate the critters from the litter.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have created a list of frequently asked questions about our Junior Biologist Club, please see information below. Click/tap each item to expand. 

What does a typical session at JBC look like?

JBC will feature a variety of activites including in-depth presentations, behind the scene visits, classroom activities, gallery exploration & activities as well as time spent outside in nature.

What type of clothing should my child wear?

Please dress and be prepared for all weather.  Some of the activities will be outside the classroom. 

What food & drink should my child bring?

Please pack a small snack for your child. Our fish don’t eat nuts and neither do our JBC'ers! Please help us ensure the safety of all kids by not packing any snacks that includes nuts. 

When and Where do I drop off my child?

Drop off is 15 minutes prior to the start time (morning session is at 9 am, the afternoon session is at 1 pm) at the AquaQuest Reception entrance on the north side of the building. 

When and Where do I pick up my child?

Please have your ID ready when you arrive for pick up. Pick up is at 11 am for the morning session and 3 pm for the afternoon session.  Pick up is at the AquaQuest Reception just like where drop off was. 

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made between 7-14 days of the program start date will be subject to a 50% cancellation fee. Cancellations made within 7 days of the program start date will not be refunded. Rescheduling within 14 days of the program date will result in a 25% rebooking fee. Missed programs will not be refunded nor rescheduled. We reserve the right to cancel any program due to low registration. Pro-D camps with fewer than 5 participants will be cancelled.
