Family Themed Sleepovers
After everyone has gone home, and the Aquarium has closed its doors for the night, we invite you to join us for an exciting night of exploration! Stash your gear, meet your adventure leaders and get ready to explore the Aquarium through a variety of special activities, tours, presentations and guest speakers.
After a delicious evening snack, we head into our behind-the-scenes marine lab to continue on the second half of your adventure, where you can touch local invertebrates including live sea stars, sea urchins, anemones and more!
Bed down in front of one of the Aquarium's spectacular marine galleries. In the morning, after a calm continental breakfast, tour the Marine Mammal Deck and Amazon Free Flight Gallery as the Aquarium wakens for a new day.
Dates and Themes
2009
The dates for the 2010 Family Sleepovers will be announced in December 2009.
Saturday July 11th – Paws, Claws, and Jaws.
The adventure begins at the Aquarium with a guided nature walk around Lost Lagoon (led by interpreters from the Stanley Park Ecology Society) to search for the creatures that call this habitat home. The fun continues as we return to the Aquarium for an evening snack followed by an exploration of sea otter paws, shark jaws and other clawed Aquarium critters. Then it’s lights out as you settle into your sleeping bag to watch the beluga whales swim by from Arctic Canada’s underwater gallery. Includes a light breakfast.
Saturday July 25th – CSI: Family Murder Mystery.
There’s been a mysterious fish kill involving contaminated water and you’ve been hired to find out exactly “who done it,” just like in the popular TV show. Our CSI murder mystery adventure will follow the evidence, including tests to determine what happened to the fish and why. The evening includes a visit to the galleries, plus bedding down in your sleeping bag in the Arctic Canada underwater gallery. Includes an evening snack and light breakfast.
Saturday August 15th – Creepy Crawlers.
Explore one of the precious jewels in Stanley Park as you wade into the wetlands with our interpreters. Enjoy a leisurely walk around Beaver Lake with its abundant wild plants. This fragile and unique ecosystem is a gateway to a wonderful world of animals including amphibians, reptiles and insects. After seeing in living colour the vital roles these creepy crawlers play, return back to the Aquarium for a light snack before hopping to the Creepy Crawlers found in the galleries. We will wiggle our way down to the Arctic Canada's underwater gallery, where you will bed down for the evening in your sleeping bag and slither your way up in the morning for a light breakfast.

As the sun sets over the mountains, return back to the Aquarium to enjoy a light snack.
