Scientific Name: Oncorhynchus keta

Names: Chum salmon / Dog Salmon

Size: Average 7 kg

Range: Oregon to Alaska to Japan and Korea

Time in Freshwater: A day to several months

Time of Runs: Late summer to late winter

Age of Spawners: 2-3 yrs.

Prey as Adult: Crustaceans, squid other fish

Prey as Juvenile: Crustaceans

No. of Eggs: 2,000-4,000

Distinct Features: No spots; occasional grid-like bars on body; fry have bright olive-green backs

Notes: Chum are the most widely dispersed of all Pacific salmon. They are native to more than 880 streams in B.C. and the Mackenzie River system.
