AQUARIUM BIRTHDAY HONOURED WITH CANADA POST STAMP, PROCLAMATIONS

Vancouver, BC: The Vancouver Aquarium celebrated its 50th birthday yesterday by unveiling its 50th anniversary stamp issued by Canada Post. The City of Vancouver and the Province of BC also declared June 15 “Vancouver Aquarium Day”.

In recognition of the Vancouver Aquarium’s 50 amazing years, Canada Post revealed a new 51-cent stamp featuring a little girl pressed against the Aquarium’s underwater beluga viewing window, gazing in wonder at beluga Kavna.

Mayor Sam Sullivan and MLA Lorne Mayencourt were also there to present proclamations from the City and the Province honouring the work the Aquarium has done over the past 50 years in conservation, education and research.

The Aquarium will also celebrate on Sunday, June 18 with a Party in the Park, featuring special guests SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star and Bee Bop Beluga. That event gets underway at 9:30 a.m. with free coffee, juice and a party hat-making activity at the salmon stream plaza in Stanley Park. The parade begins at 11 a.m. and will wind its way back towards the Aquarium, where there will be a whale of a cake for everyone. See www.vanaqua.org for more details.
