LOCALS SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD CONSERVATION BY SLURPING CHOWDER
2ND ANNUAL OCEAN WISE™ CHOWDER CHOWDOWN A GREAT SUCCESS!
Vancouver, BC – More than 300 people supported Canada’s leading sustainable seafood conservation program by attending last night’s 2nd Annual Ocean Wise Chowder ChowDown event.
The chowder-and-beer-loving community savoured some tasty fun as Ocean Wise chefs created delicious, sustainable seafood chowders paired with local BC brews. Featuring the top 10 Ocean Wise chowder recipe finalists, chefs competed for the title of BC Ocean Wise Seafood Chowder Champion 2009. With ten restaurants, five local brewers, and MC food writer extraordinaire Andrew Morrison, it was an unforgettable chowder-filled evening. Guests also had a chance to vote for their favourite chowder with the People’s Choice Award!
A judging panel of dignified local foodies, Ocean Wise partners and Canucks celebrity judge Willie Mitchell selected the 2009 Champion Chowder - the scrumptious smoked corn and scallop chowder created by Chef Matt and Chef Andrew Christie from Go Fish. The People's Choice Award winner was Chef Chris Whittaker from O’Doul’s Restaurant who also received an outstanding amount of votes.
In addition to slurping delectable chowders, guests enjoyed local beer tasters from five members of the Craft Brewers Association of BC - Granville Island Brewing, Phillips Brewing Company, R&B Brewing, TREE Brewing Company and Whistler Brewing Company.
Congratulations to all those who participated and to our 2009 Chowder Champion, Go Fish!
