SCHOOLCHILDREN RELEASE BABY SALMON
IN STANLEY PARK FOR EARTH DAY
Vancouver, BC: Today the Vancouver Aquarium and schoolchildren from Mount Pleasant Elementary in Vancouver celebrated Earth Day with the launch of the 6th annual “Goodbye Salmon Fry”.
Dozens of salmon fry were released by the grade four students into the Alcan Salmon Pool in Stanley Park. This season, the Vancouver Aquarium expects to release thousands of Coho salmon fry.
“Goodbye Salmon Fry” kicks off Earth Week at the Aquarium – a week of special events showing you how to make every day, Earth Day.
The public is invited to join “Goodbye Salmon Fry” this Saturday and Sunday (April 26 & 27) from 10:30 am-3 pm. Visitors to the Aquarium can help release hundreds of baby salmon for their journey to the Pacific Ocean. Participants name their salmon fry and receive an official certificate to document their involvement.
“Earth Week” at the Aquarium includes crafts, face painting, daily salmon hatchery tours, and the mysterious and fun Salmon: CSI. Plus, enter the Earth Week Challenge by telling the Aquarium what you’ll do to make every day Earth Day, and you could win a sea otter trainer tour for 2!
Happy Earth Day from everyone at the Vancouver Aquarium.
