YOUNG VICTIMS OF CHERNOBYL DISASTER ENJOYED SPECIAL AQUARIUM SHOWS

Vancouver, BC: Children visiting from the Republic of Belarus enjoyed a special shark show, an otter feed and a beluga show yesterday at the Aquarium.

These children are on a health break from the continuing effects of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Every year, the Canadian Relief Fund for Chernobyl Victims in Belarus brings children from Belarus to Canada in the summertime so they can experience relief from pollution back home and hopefully improve their health.

Host families in the Fraser Valley invite the children for a six-week stay, during which they receive medical and dental care not available at home, as well as enjoy the clean air and fresh fruits and vegetables that B.C. has to offer.

The Vancouver Aquarium was happy to welcome these children during their stay. They were front and centre for a special beluga show, where two of the children got ‘spat’ on by beluga whale Qila.
