CAPERS DONATES $40,000 TO VANCOUVER AQUARIUM’S OCEAN WISE PROGRAM
Vancouver, BC: Capers Community Markets, Canada's leading natural and organic food market, has donated $40,000 to Ocean Wise, the Vancouver Aquarium’s sustainable seafood program.
Capers gives back to local communities by providing support to non-profit organizations whose programs directly benefit the communities surrounding their stores. This year, Capers 11th Annual Living Naturally Fair - a two-day family community event where more than 100 product manufacturers, natural health experts and non-profit organizations create a temporary farmers market at the Robson Street store’s parking lot – will directly benefit Ocean Wise.
While the Ocean Wise program is operational in 60 restaurant locations throughout British Columbia, Capers was the first retailer to partner with Ocean Wise. It allows customers to make sustainable choices at Capers' seafood counters when they are making decisions about what to feed themselves and their families.
Sustainable seafood is now labelled with the Ocean Wise logo in the seafood cases at all four Capers store locations. The Vancouver Aquarium has also partnered with Capers to provide ongoing information and education to Capers' employees on sustainable seafood choices.
During the past ten years, Capers’ Living Naturally Fair has raised approximately $271,000 for local non-profit organizations.
