Vancouver Aquarium volunteer Pat Chapman
recognized by Canadian Association of Zoos & Aquariums
VANCOUVER–Staff and volunteers at the Vancouver Aquarium are proud to recognize Aquarium volunteer, Pat Chapman, as 2008 Volunteer of the Year awarded by the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA).
The award was bestowed yesterday (October 3rd) at the closing banquet of the annual CAZA conference held in Granby, Quebec. This award is presented annually to an individual who has contributed greatly as a volunteer to an accredited zoo or aquarium in Canada.
As the 2008 award recipient, Pat Chapman is a long-time supporter of the Vancouver Aquarium. She has contributed more than 4600 hours of service to the Aquarium since joining the volunteer team in 2002. Pat again demonstrated her commitment through overnight shifts to monitor the beluga whale calf born June 10, 2008 at the Vancouver Aquarium. An inspiration to the entire team, she believes firmly that engaging youth in education programs at the Aquarium can result in lasting, positive change for a lifetime.
“Pat is an active retiree active in our community and with this award she’s been acknowledged for her incredible contributions to the Vancouver Aquarium”, said Rachelle Davidson, Manager, Volunteer Services, Vancouver Aquarium. “Pat’s nursing background, her “green” approach to life and dedication to the conservation of aquatic life are qualities matched in her Volunteer roles at the Aquarium as an Educator and Rescue Volunteer.
