Connecting Students With Marine Life

AquaVan programs are designed to inspire the stewardship of all aquatic habitats and encourage the discovery of connections between animals, environments and ourselves. All AquaVan programs supplement the B.C. school curriculum, satisfying a wide range of the Prescribed Learning Outcomes outlined in the Ministry of Education's Integrated Resource Packages.

Intermediate Programs

 

Primary and Intermediate (K - grade 7)

In small groups lead by an AquaVan Educator, students will explore and discover how animals survive in different aquatic environments. By observing, discussing and touching live marine animals, students will be connected to the underwater world and learn how their actions impact the health of our fragile marine ecosystems.

  • Interactions with live animals.
  • Curriculum-focused with deliverable PLO’s.
  • Class Size and Duration: Up to 30 students/1 hour program, maximum 150 students/ day.
Primary Programs

Secondary (Grades 8 - 12)

This program intoduces students to several important marine phyla, echinodermata, arthropoda, mollusca and cnidaria.  In small groups lead by an AquaVan Educator your students will participate in a fully interactive and immersive program.  Through discussion and inquiry they will explore the intricate nature of marine biology and discover features of invertebrates that help them thrive in the intertidal zone. 

  • Interactions with live animals.
  • Curriculum focused with deliverable PLOs.
  • Squid dissection
  • Class size and Duration:  Up to 30 students/ 75 minute program, maximum 120 students/day.
Primary Programs

Outreach Educator Internship

The Vancouver Aquarium AquaVan delivers outreach education programs at schools, community events and festivals throughout Western Canada.  Help us provide students with hands-on opportunities to discover and explore animals from Brithish Columbia's shores. 

  • Are you interested in education, conservation, biological or environmental sciences?
  • Do you enjoy working with children of all ages?
  • Interested in exploring Western Canada?

If you answered "yes" to the questions above, you may be the perfect candidate for an Outreach Educator Internship with the Vancouver Aquarium AquaVan!  There are seven internships available throughout 2013, each lasting six weeks.  To apply, send your cover letter and resume to aquavan.intern@vanaqua.org
