Hands-On Learning

The Vancouver Aquarium’s AquaVan, presented by BC Hydro, is one of the Vancouver Aquarium’s most exciting educational initiatives. Home to many local marine species and a variety of props, the AquaVan complements the B.C. Ministry of Education’s curriculum guidelines for K-12. AquaVan educators deliver award-winning aquatic programs, featuring live animals, props and activities, throughout British Columbia and as far as Northeastern Alberta.

Many of the communities visited by the AquaVan are “landlocked,” with no direct access to the sea and its many wonders. Give your students the opportunity to touch a sea star, understand how a barnacle feeds, observe a hermit crab up close and discover the connections among animals, environments and ourselves.

Our Programs

These special programs provides children and families with the chance to get up close and personal with live marine animals, regardless of where they live. It can be a magical experience for young students to be able to touch the marine creatures we bring right to their classroom.
