Aquaquest - the Marilyn Blusson Learning Centre

The Vancouver Aquarium is very excited about the opening of its brand new facility. This 52,000 square foot ‘green’ building houses the brand new Canaccord Capital Exploration Gallery, which has lots of cool things for visitors to see and do! Here are some of the fascinating things you’ll see on your visit to Aquaquest:

New gallery space

See aquatic life like never before in the Canaccord Capital Exploration Gallery. This new gallery shows off unique animals in interactive settings. Watch how archerfish use spit to catch their prey, churn water in the barnacle exhibit and learn how a jelly grows from a tiny polyp to a full grown adult.

New Clownfish Cove

This popular children’s play area has been recreated to give families even more opportunities to learn and play together. Dress up as your favourite aquatic animal or nurse a ‘seal pup’ back to health in our new animal hospital.

New environmental newsroom

Not up on the latest environmental happenings? The newsroom will broadcast the latest conservation news, events and scientific discoveries on large screens to keep you updated on what’s going on in the aquatic world.

New theatre

The 170-seat Ocean Theatre will be available for lectures, programs, presentations and events.

New ‘Windows on Research’ area

Have you ever wondered what’s going on behind the scenes at the Aquarium? The Windows on Research area allows you to explore many of the exciting research projects taking place in our facilities.

New wet lab and classrooms

The wet lab, one of our most popular settings for school programs, is enlarged and updated in the new building to show students the wonders of aquatic life. Visitors can peek into the wet lab from the main gallery. Two dedicated dry classrooms will also help our education team accommodate even more students, tripling our teaching capacity.

Aquaquest – the Marilyn Blusson Learning Centre is also a green building, designed to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold standards. It is the first aquarium in the world to do so. For more information, visit www.vanaqua.org/greenbuilding.
