Aquaquest - the Marilyn Blusson Learning Centre

An environmentally friendly building in the making

The seawater cooling system – a Vancouver Aquarium specialty

It’s not something you can pick up at your local hardware store, but at the Aquarium a saltwater cooling system is a ready-made green solution.

The Aquarium’s innovative green building team is using the cold saltwater – already being piped into the building for the animals – to cool the new Education Centre.

Want the nitty gritty?

Cold saltwater won’t actually be pumped through each room. Instead, it will act as a heat sink for our radiant heating/cooling system.

At home:

No seawater cooling system in your house? No problem! On sunny days, close the curtains or blinds on doors and windows that face the sun to help cool your house.
