An environmentally friendly building in the making

Most of the pages on this web site are about animals. This page is about concrete. Read on – we think you’ll like it.

Why is the Vancouver Aquarium excited about concrete? Well, we're busy making an environmentally friendly building - a "green" building. Green buildings are a great way for people to protect animals and ecosystems. And if it protects animals, we’re interested!

Our favourite green features of the new building:

Water Efficiency

Rainwater Flushing Toilets
Low-flow loos that flush with rain we collect from the roof

Bugs!

A Wall Crawling with Bugs

A "living wall" of plants designed to be insect friendly

Materials & Resources

Concrete

Of course!

Seawater Cooling

A Vancouver Aquarium specialty

Big Recycling

Front End Loader Sized Recycling

We're recycling an entire building
