Overview

Up close and personal

Guided by an Aquarium interpreter, you will learn more about the walruses at the Vancouver Aquarium and how they are helping researchers understand how their Arctic counterparts are impacted by climate change. Then, if the walruses are awake, you’ll meet up with a walrus trainer and experience what it’s like to work with such charismatic animals.

What you'll do

Go behind-the-scenes

Experience what it’s like to care for walruses as you go behind the scenes to see the fishy part of animal care. You will also receive a unique opportunity to be amongst the first guests to see the Arctic Fish rearing lab where our biologists help researchers understand life under the Arctic sea ice!

Be prepared to go behind-the-scenes

You will walk on un-even, wet, slippery surfaces

Closed-toed shoes are required for your safety

Cameras are not permitted for animal safety

Please advise us of any special needs or concerns

Location

Research Outpost

The walrus habitat is located in our Research Outpost exhibit. For the first time ever, we have opened up the doors to our research centre to give guests a look into the ground-breaking marine mammal research taking place behind the scenes.
