Leap Into The World Of Frogs

Leap into the fantastic world of frogs during this program and get an in-depth look at some of the impressive residents of the Frogs Forever? gallery. You’ll learn about why frogs are so important to us and what we can do to help them survive the devastating problems they’re facing in the wild. Since frogs are shy and often good at hiding, this is a great opportunity to get a glimpse at some of these remarkable animals, as many programs incorporate feeds.

Frogs In Peril

Amphibians survived the disaster that wiped out the dinosaurs, but now they’re under siege from a variety of threats. Habitat loss, pollution and hunting are serious concerns, but the most immediate threat to amphibians is a parasitic fungus called the amphibian chytrid (“kit-rid”); it’s a deadly disease that is quickly spreading across the planet. At the current rate, over half of the world’s amphibian species could disappear within our lifetime.

How We Help

The Vancouver Aquarium has joined forces with zoos and aquariums around the world to try and stop hundreds of species from vanishing forever in a global effort called Amphibian Ark (AArk). AArk’s goal is to raise awareness about amphibian vulnerability and rescue at least 500 of the most threatened species. These species will be protected and bred in secure facilities at zoos and aquariums until the animals can one day be released back into nature.
