Meet A Penguin

Take A Waddle On
The Wild Side

Our trainers ensure every animal under our care gets daily enrichment opportunities. For the African penguins, that sometimes means a change of scenery. In this feature program, our trainers will bring one of the penguins to the Teck Engagement Gallery for a free-roaming training session.

Get Up Close

African penguins can be curious animals, and these special training sessions are positive experiences for them. If you are interested in spending more time with the penguin trainers, consider booking a Penguin Encounter.

Endangered Species

African penguins (Spheniscus demersus) are endangered. North American zoos and aquariums, including the Vancouver Aquarium, are helping to save them. For example, all the penguins at the Vancouver Aquarium are not from South Africa, but have instead been bred at another aquarium through the Species Survival Plan program of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). You can help too – visit the Penguin Point exhibit to find out how.
