Learn about the Graham Amazon Gallery

The Amazon is the most species-rich area of the world. Over 2.5 million species of insects live here. The Amazon is also home to more than 3,000 species of fishes and one fifth of the world’s bird species, with more yet to be discovered. However, many of the animals and plants in the Amazon are in danger of extinction. The rainforest is being logged at an ever-increasing rate, and we are losing species before we can identify them.

The Amazon encompasses a huge area, but it’s rapidly losing ground. The animals that live there are losing their homes to development for cities and agriculture. Find out what you can do to help protect this vulnerable area, and learn about the conservation initiatives we’re involved with. For example, we’ve helped train locals in Brazil who are sustainably harvesting ornamental fish for aquariums. This harvesting provides local people with an economic reason to preserve rainforests rather than destroy them.
