What is the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup™?

The Shoreline Cleanup promotes an understanding of shoreline litter issues by engaging Canadians to rehabilitate shoreline areas through local cleanups. This is presented by Loblaw Companies ltd. and a joint effort between WWF Canada and the Vancouver Aquarium, an Ocean Wise Initiative.

As Simple as 1-2-3

You can make our shorelines safe, fun and family-friendly! Standing up against shoreline litter can be as simple as:

  1. Signing up for our shoreline cleanup.
  2. Arriving on the day.
  3. Picking up garbage.

We provide equipment such as reusable gloves, pickers, and collection buckets. Join us as we reduce our single-use waste by bringing your own re-useable bottles, especially since members can enjoy complimentary refreshments during our cleanups!

What Members Found on Previous Cleanups

A recent event in September 2017 saw members of the Vancouver Aquarium clean over 300m of coastline, collecting over 100lbs of litter.

Some really interesting finds include:

  • A usable pair of footwear
  • Anchor chains
  • Bicycle and truck tires
  • Hundreds of cigarette butts, plastic and Styrofoam bits.

Our next cleanup will be on May 2018
