Join us for this brand new Animal Encounter program which takes you behind the scenes for a closer look at the Amazon birds at the Aquarium.
You’ll go behind the scenes at the Vancouver Aquarium and enjoy a special presentation with an Aquarium interpreter, before visiting the Aquarium’s bird room. Get closer as you participate in animal husbandry alongside the animal care staff. You will meet Amazon birds and learn more about the Aquarium's research, conservation, and animal care projects.
This is a rare opportunity to view bird rooms from behind the scenes during your visit to meet our resident Amazon birds. You’ll also see what a day is like in the life of a Vancouver Aquarium aquarist. Throughout this entire adventure, you’ll receive an intimate look at the many conservation and research programs and initiatives that the Aquarium is involved with.
Amazon Bird Encounters require participants to be in a hot and humid environment for extended periods of time, be around nuts and insects, and walk on wet, slippery surfaces. Please advise us of any disabilities, special needs, medical conditions or concerns you may have that could prevent you from fully participating in the program. No concern is too small. The more information you can provide about yourself, the better we can prepare for your experience.
Our Animal Encounters fill up very quickly: contact us early to ensure your spot is reserved. Booking office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For phone reservations, payment by credit card is due upon booking. For bookings made over the phone or by email, please allow at least 24 hours’ notice. Within 24 hours, please book onsite.
Programs are subject to change so please ask us about the current schedule. Group size is limited.
Enjoy a special presentation with an Aquarium interpreter and participate in an animal husbandry session alongside our official Aquarium animal care staff.
You’ll visit a unique, rarely-seen area during this Animal Encounter, the bird room in the Amazon Gallery. Expect to get up close with our Amazon birds.
