Reducing Waste
We are always looking for ways to reduce the amount of garbage that we send to landfill. Here are some of our related initiatives:
General Recycling
We recycle paper, cardboard, refundable beverage containers and non-refundable containers (metal, glass and plastic) are picked up regularly by a local recycler.
In addition to this recycling, we also schedule regular pick up of batteries and fluorescent light tubes!
Office Recycling
To help promote an environment to encourage recycling, our office staff have a much larger paper recycling container with a tiny garbage container hanging from its side. We have found this quite effective!
Organic Waste Diversion
What does the Amazon Gallery’s leaf litter, leftover fish from the dolphin’s lunch, and bones from our café’s prep kitchen have in common? They’re all examples of behind-the-scenes waste that we send to an industrial compost facility to become nutrient-rich soil!

Recycling E-waste
The Aquarium now sends electronic waste such as phones, computers, and monitors to be recycled. In November 2006, we offered a special incentive to public wishing to recycle their cell phones. We are still accepting old/broken cell phones. They can be dropped off between 9am and 5pm, 7 days a week at the Aquarium's Aquaquest reception desk.

Aquaquest
During the recent construction of the new Aquaquest buildling, we were able to achieve 90% recycling of the demolition waste. Read more about this green construction project.
