We are very excited that you will be attending the 2009 NAME Conference at Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre, Vancouver, BC. Here are some options for transportation to and from the Aquarium.

The Vancouver Aquarium is a 15 –20 minute walk from Downtown. Follow the green signs leading into Stanley Park on the North Side of Georgia Street.

Spokes

604/688-5141 Located at Denman and Georgia, near Stanley Park, Spokes has a wide selection of bikes, including kids' bikes, tandems, mountain bikes, and Rollerblades.

 

Bayshore Bicycles

604/688-2453 If you're starting your bike ride near Stanley Park, try this friendly

store. It has a range of bikes and Rollerblades as well as baby joggers and bike

trailers.

 

Reckless Bike Store

604/648-2600 This outfit rents bikes on the Yaletown section of the bike path. To explore the Granville Island and Kitsilano area, a better bet might be their Kitsilano branch.

Translink Bus and SkyTrain Routes

For your convenience the most common routes are listed below:

1. Take the #19 Bus to Stanley Park, it runs along W. Pender.

2. Take the #135, running along West Hastings, to Burrard Street and connect to the #19 bus on W. Pender & Georgia.

3. Take the Skytrain to Burrard Station and connect to the #19 bus on W. Pender     & Georgia.

Zone 1: Yellow

Zone 2: Red

Zone 3: Green

 

Fare Zones

The number of zones (colours) you touch during your trip will determine your fare.

Fares vary depending on the time of day, day of the week and the zones you travel.

Fares may be paid in cash or by purchasing tickets or passes before you travel.

Exact change only. Operators do not carry change.

 

Transferring Between Bus, SkyTrain and SeaBus

You can travel up to 90 minutes for each cash fare or FareSaver ticket in the zone(s) purchased. You can transfer between bus, SkyTrain and SeaBus in any direction.

Add-Fares

Any valid fare proof of payment transfer may be upgraded on the bus and at SkyTrain/SeaBus ticket vending machines for two-zone or three-zone travel.

 

Cash Fares

Buses require exact coin fare.

SkyTrain accepts coins (except pennies) & bills (up to $20).

Debit & credit cards are accepted at most SkyTrain stations.

Driving From Oregon or Washington

I-5 North to Vancouver (I-5 turns into Hwy 99, which goes downtown Vancouver)

Driving From Downtown Vancouver:

Drive west on Georgia Street.

Continue west past Denman Street. Proceed right into Stanley Park.

Follow the signs directing you to the Vancouver Aquarium.

Please note: Many of the roads in Stanley Park are one way. Watch for signs.

 

Driving From North and West Vancouver:

Take the Lions Gate Bridge

Exit on the first right to enter Stanley Park

Follow the signs for "Other Park Attractions"Leads you around the park on Park Drive

Turn left on Avison Way just past the Info Booth

Park Drive is a one-way road system.

Please note: Many of the roads in Stanley Park are one way. Watch for signs.

 

Parking

Pay Parking is available adjacent to the Aquarium and throughout Stanley Park. If the adjacent lot is full, there are many options close-by:

Near the Info Booth (4 minute walk).

Near the Children’s Zoo and the Miniature Train (4 minute walk).

In the Central Parking Lot off Pipeline Road (7 minute walk).

There are a few wheelchair accessible parking spaces available at each of these lots above.

Pay parking is in effect in parking lots and on roadways throughout Stanley Park.

Parking rates (Subject to change):

April-September - $2/hr or $8/day.

Rates in effect 6 am to 9 pm daily.

Meters accept coins, Visa and Mastercard.

 

Getting to Vancouver from out of Town  Back to Top

Car 

Travelling from the South – Interstate 5 merges onto Highway 99, which will bring you into downtown Vancouver.

Travelling from North /North-East – Highway 1, which will bring you into downtown Vancouver.

Ferry 

BC Ferries has service to Horseshoe Bay (20 minutes north of Vancouver) and Tsawwassen (45 minutes south of Vancouver)

Tsawwassen: upon arrival, go east to Highway 99 and north to Vancouver

Horseshoe Bay: upon arrival, go south on Highway 1 to Vancouver

Airport 

Vancouver International (YVR)

From the airport, follow the signs to downtown Vancouver

You can also fly to Seattle or Bellingham if you are looking for a cheaper travel option, but you'll need to find transportation to Vancouver.   

 

Train

Amtrak Cascades will bring you to downtown Vancouver (Vancouver - Seattle - Tacoma - Portland - Salem – Eugene).

Bus

Greyhound Bus Lines will bring you to downtown Vancouver.
