About NAME

Urban Waters Conference  July 19-22, 2009

Educators from British Columbia, Oregon, Washington and Alaska coming together to share ideas, network, and learn the latest in conservation and research.

NAME, or the Northwest Aquatic and Marine Educators, was founded in 1975  as an effort to bring together environmental educators around the world of salty and fresh, and to share lessons, information, experiences and enjoy the beauty of the natural world we teach about.

NAME is a “family” of educators passionate about oceans and watersheds. We believe in the magic of the world of water and its ability to facilitate learning. NAME is a chapter of the National Marine Educators Association (NMEA),a non-profit organization that brings together those interested in the study and enjoyment of the world of water.

NAME is affiliated with the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), National Marine Educators Association (NMEA), universities, aquariums, science centers, marine reserves and laboratories, businesses, agencies, and more!

Our membership includes teachers, infomal science educators, environmental educators, and students from many different locations throughout the Pacific Northwest. NAME 2010

Oregon will be your host for the NAME ANNUAL CONFERENCE at Florence on the beautiful Central Oregon Coast. Mark you calendars NOW for July 7-10, 2010. This is NAME’s first visit to Florence, and we have secured the new Florence Event Center for the occasion. Planning is well underway for one the best conference event ever. Florence is a beautiful backdrop for marine and aquatic educators – kayaking on the Siuslaw River or one of the many fresh-water lakes, the famous Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, Cape Perpetua National Scenic Area, Siuslaw National Forest, Hecteca Head Lighthouse, and then there’s combing miles of sandy beaches and browsing quaint shops in Old Town Florence.

At present, we are planning pre-conference workshops, exciting speakers and a host of field experiences to enrich the usual unmatched NAME hospitality and social events. A variety of reasonably-priced lodging is available, including great camping.

BE THERE OR BE SQUARE! For more information, contact Bill Hastie, Conference Chair at 503-585-3525 or hastieststuff@mac.com.
