What
is AquaSchool?
A
full week of teacher-led activities
At
AquaSchool, students may observe live plants and animals,
meet with Aquarium staff and volunteer experts, use the galleries
for teacher-led lessons, tour behind-the-scenes, examine animal
artifacts, touch live invertebrates, and explore Stanley Park
and Vancouver Harbour. With the vast resources of the Aquarium
available to the classroom teacher, Chevron AquaSchool is
more than a fun-filled outing - it is powerful!
Intermediate
classes spend an entire week at the Aquarium
AquaSchool is an innovative educational program that lets
grade 4-7 teachers move their classroom to the Aquarium for
one week of unforgettable learning. The classroom teacher
designs and implements a long-term interdisciplinary study
with an aquatic theme. After weeks of study at school, the
students' learning is reinforced when they are immersed in
hands-on educational experiences at the Aquarium.
Not
a traditional field trip
The
teacher meets with the Aquarium Coordinator one month before
coming to plan a custom-made week. At the Aquarium, the teacher
directs the learning of the students at all times, using the
galleries as a classroom and making connections to past and
future studies.
