Salmon Tales

Welcome to Salmon Tales: Our Natural Living Heritage, a joint partnership between the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre and the Virtual Museum of Canada.

Salmon have been valuable resource for many cultures. In addition to being an important food resource, salmon have also played an important role in the myths and legends of many cultures. This is no surprise because salmon by their own right have a mythical quality about them. They are amazing swimmers and leapers. After spending several years in the open ocean, they begin a remarkable journey back to the streams where they hatched. Rivers filled with large salmon runs are awe-inspiring sights and the more we find out about salmon, the more fascinating they become.
