7. Alcan Salmon Pool Display
· Predators--Stanley Park has several resident animals that would love to eat our returning salmon: raccoons, coyotes, eagles and herons all have direct access to the pool. · Lack of spawning gravel--the pool bottom and bank is made of cement! Every rock is cemented in place so that our stream doesn't erode away. Without loose sand and gravel, redds could not be made to protect and cover the eggs. |

When
the salmon return, we collect eggs and fertilize them for
our hatchery. Some spawners are also placed on display at
the B.C. Forest Headwaters Exhibit. Why won't spawners be
left in the Alcan Salmon Pool Display? There are two big reasons:
