Organize Your Own Cleanup!

Join the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup as a Site Coordinator, and become part of the solution for a cleaner Canada! Organizing a cleanup is a rewarding, exciting, fun - and important leadership opportunity. You will join Canadians from every corner of the country who are cleaning up lake, river, stream, pond, wetland and ocean shorelines.

What does a Site Coordinator do?

When you register as a Site Coordinator you become our link to your community.

The Site Coordinator is the person who:

  1. Chooses the cleanup location
  2. Chooses the cleanup date and time
  3. Organizes the cleanup activities for that site
  4. Summarizes and returns cleanup data cards

As a Site Coordinator, you'll also ensure that all necessary permits and liability waivers are signed, and arrange where to dispose of the collected litter. Depending on your cleanup location, the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup staff may be able to assist with this if required.

Remember...

Your site could be a local stream or an entire lake shoreline. It's up to you!

Your cleanup could include just yourself, a small number of friends/family/colleagues or the whole community. It's up to you!

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone to flex their leadership muscle. This is also a wonderful opportunity to take action on an issue that affects everyone.

Becoming a site coordinator

Site Coordinators must be 19 years of age or older.

All registered Site Coordinators receive a "Shoreline Cleanup Package" which contains all the information and supplies you’ll need to run your best shoreline cleanup. Each package contains the following items:

· Site Coordinator Hat· Data Cards to record your findings
· Rubber Gloves (1 pair per person)· Waiver forms
· Online resources, such as the Site Coordinator manual, event posters, and planning tips, are also available.

Your most important job? After you've coordinated your cleanup the most important task is only just beginning. The next step is tallying the data you collected!   When you gather up and return your completed Data Cards to the Vancouver Aquarium, you're ensuring that this program reaches further than just a one day event. The information on the data cards are essential to our program and to understanding the major - and minor - sources of shoreline litter in every region. For more information about how we use the information on data cards, see our Past Cleanups.
