Water Drops

The Vancouver Aquarium is very excited to welcome our lead community partner, Teck. We have innovative plans to work together as a team to expand the aquarium and help advance aquatic research and conservation.

Both organizations recognize water as a critical resource. We will be working together to create new programs that will explore the connection we all have to water and highlight the roles we play in using and conserving it.

Much of Earth’s water may have come from comets hitting the planet over billions of years

Each day the sun evaporates a trillion tons of water into the atmosphere

The water that’s on Earth now is the same as when it was formed The water molecules we drink today may have also passed through a Neanderthal’s lips

Water that’s underground (groundwater) can take a human lifetime to travel just two kilometres

A typical cumulus cloud may hold over a billion kilograms of water droplets – and weigh as much as 6,269 blue whales!

There may be more water under the oceans than in them Scientists at Oregon State University may have found vast reservoirs of water beneath the ocean floor
